so, i have all these girls i know. stupid, stupid girls that i keep unimaginably stupid and complex and pointless relationships with and i was going to make a mix, about these girls, and probably one specifically, and i'm sure we can mostly all guess which one. my cd drive is broken in some fashion though and i'm too lazy or poor to fix it. so, fuck that noize.

i haven't figured out all the songs on it, but here's some choice lyrics:

"i still have never seen you and some days i don't love you at all." - pedro the lion, secret of the easy yoke
"you're a waste of a song. you're a waste of my lungs." -hum, i'd like your hair long
"wait for something better ? i shouldn't, it's not enough." -jimmy eat world, clarity

and i'm sure you get the point.

i'm about 5 beers away from telling you all what i really think.

1) to paraphrase oscar wilde: my computer and i are fighting a duel to the death. one or the other of us has got to go.

2) kristina relayed a story about how, in grade school, she learned "the 59th street bridge song (feelin' groovy)" today. i explained what songs i learned in grade school and said i went to catholic school.

kristina: oh, so you didn't learn "feelin' groovy."
me: no, we learned "feelin' guilty."

3) ... and that's the way we get by.

no one has submitted a new name in a bit so i figure we can vote. it's a checklist poll which means you can CHOOSE MORE THAN ONE NAME. the name that gets the most votes still wins. this is something like instant run-off voting. i think.

anyway, vote.

i'm considering creating a new journal mostly because i am tired of this username.

i've decided to make this a fairly democratic process and ask for input from all of you.

your job is to basically use the poll thing to suggest a name. you can suggest more than one if you want, but i think livejournal only lets you submit once. so if you're going to suggest multiple names type them all in at once.

whenever i feel like suggestion time is over, i will put up another poll with all the suggestions and you can all vote on which name i should choose. as long as the name with the most votes is available and i don't hate it, i will make that my new journal.

hurrah.

last night, whilst driving about, we heard the most incredible song.

i wrote the name on my hand and said, "i never want to forget this."

ladies and gentleman, i present to you, nelly bly:

We'll sweep the kitchen clean, my dear,
And have a little song.
Poke the wood, my lady love
And make the fire burn,
And while I take the banjo down,
Just give the mush a turn.

Chorus:
Hi, Nelly! Ho Nelly !
Listen, love, to me,
I'll sing for you and play for you
A dulcet melody.

2. Nelly Bly has a voice like a turtle dove,
I hear it in the meadow and I hear it in the grove.
Nelly Bly has a heart
Warm as a cup of tea,
And bigger than the sweet potatoes
Down in Tennessee.

Chorus:

3. Nelly Bly shuts her eye when she goes to sleep.
When she wakens up again her eyeballs start to peep.
The way she walks, she lifts her foot,
And then she bumps it down;
And when it lights, there's music there
In that part of the town.

Chorus:

4. Nelly Bly! Nelly Bly! Never, never sigh;
Never bring the tear drop to the corner of your eye.
For the pie is nnade of pumpkins
And the mush is made of corn,
And there's corn and pumpkins plenty, love,
A-lyin' in the barn.

Chorus:

two things:

"like the reflecting pool up with the fountain at the top of church st. it was designed to reflect the church but it doesnt reflect anything. it's silly. such is the nature of the world. life will torture you if you let it. it gives you cancer & injury... but it also gives you butterflies and beers.. besides, cloudy days have as much beauty as sunny ones literally and like a metaphor. the world is pure nonsense. accept that & enjoy the silly ride."

you guys are all paranoid fags. i wasn't talking about any of you.

i'm working on a mix, kind of, but i'm really more focused on amassing a level of music near what i had before. then a mix, i guess.

now, for fun livejournal tips brought you by me.

want to know who's hiding entries from you ?

head on over to your suspect's journal page, click on the calendar and start randomly clicking on dates. if the calendar indicates an entry and you can't see it or if it shows that user posting a number of entries--let's say 5--for the day, but you can only read 3. congratulations, your friend is saying things that they don't want you to know.

happy hunting !

here's what's been going on:

yesterday, my computer froze up, i rebooted it and it still wasn't working right. i rebooted again and it didn't work at all. i had to format it and reinstall windows. it's not a terribly big deal. i'm in the process of replacing mp3s. the only thing that really bothers me is that all pictures mid-april on are gone. those included a whole bunch of wilco and some other generally humorous ones. on the plus side, the computer seems to be running better.

the internship is going well. a story i co-wrote is in the latest issue and i'm working on another story now. since this is all for a business newspaper, i'll spare you details cos who really cares about business news in central pennsylvania ?

me and liz had a picnic (of sorts) for memorial day. we had some barbeque chicken and some french fries and even if it was devoid of beer and the outside world and other people, it was still pretty good. we also watched the rules of attraction, which i found to be reasonably entertaining and quintessentially bret easton ellis. oh, bret, you and your stories that are full of sex and cocaine.

i'm in the process of finding a job as i need money to support my various addictions and whatnot. much as i enjoy the town of state college and their lovely parks system and the friends i have here, i'd really rather be at home. i have a porch there and, generally speaking, a lot less responsibilities. i am going home in two weeks but only for semi-familial obligations, so that doesn't seem to amount to much, although i'm sure i'll have fun.

i spend a lot of time overthinking things and one of the things i focus on more than anything else is how summer is supposed to feel. i've come to a conclusion that it's fairly difficult to obtain the proper summer feeling without immediate access to the outdoors and a car. so i'm trapped in this semi-summer that might be something in terms of the calendar date, but doesn't amount to much in terms of how it makes me feel. of course, this whole ideal of summer is really just over-romanticized nostalgic bullshit. oh, well.

i'm really trying to cut a lot of people out of my life, which might seem kind of silly, cos there's barely anyone in it anyway. still, talking to a bunch of people who don't talk back is really a pointless expenditure of energy. i don't know if i'm being smart or lazy or bitter, but either way, you people are just not worth it anymore.

i'm not entirely sure when this journal decided to become the place for sporadic, long, pseudo-deep posts, but that seems to be what is and i guess that's what it will stay. for now, at least.

walked two blocks in the wrong direction today to see central parklet, football field, elementary school, masonic temple.. stuff like that. town stuff. turns out i like state college and it's just the school and boring apartment complexes i'm not too sure about.

yesterday, i walked to lederer park. got kind of lost on some trails but eventually was led to a nice arboretum and then continued on to a pavillion.

Subject:here's a semi-coherent entry:
Time:1:25 pm.
i woke up today to my first full day in summertime state college and what a morning it was. temperatures were hovering around the low 40s. i cooked breakfast, shaved (razors that aren't dull = much less bleeding), got dressed and headed out to get the bus to the world of interning.

if things had gone as planned, i would be finishing my day there right about now, but things went different than planned. the editor, my boss, didn't make it to work today so they had me read the paper for an hour and then told me i could get the hell out if i wanted to do so. i took them up on that offer.

jumping around in time, my weekend at home was good. i did absolutely nothing. home may not be the savior it used to be, but it felt good to be reminded that people had lawns and porches and whatnot, that people really lived there.

sadly, i had to return to state college and a new bland student ghetto apartment with a new view of a new parking lot. i like being closer to town though and farther from campus. i try to walk a different way whenever i head to get the bus or groceries or alcohol. i'm trying to see new things here so it seems more like an actual town rather than "all them houses over there." i try and think when i walk buy all the little cottage houses on prospect ave. that "hey, that's a real house. real people live there and not just for a year or two, for their whole life in some cases, and they mow that lawn and sit on that porch." and all that really impresses me because state college is so full of temporary that it's nice to see something that actually lasts.

so, last night i had my first dinner in my new apartment (my dad, upon seeing it, said, "this place would be illegal in scranton.") burger king and pabst blue ribbon, fitting for me. i reminded myself of that built to spill song, "he thought he'd have a beer / thought he was alone / he thought an albertson's stir fry dinner would make his apartment a home." i sure am trying to make this place a home, with my air mattress and borrowed couch (thanks, arthur,) my tv sitting on the floor waiting for me to steal some milk crates to stand it up on, it's not so bad though. i suspect things will be better after i get drunk in here a few times, eat a few meals, have some people over and stick some crap to the walls and when liz gets here, cos liz feels like home.

other news, i'm enjoying the cable modem quite a bit, having downloaded the new alkaline trio album and the latest catpower (congratulations, liz, that one is your fault) and i guess i'll do a roundabout apology for anyone i was an asshole to over the weekend, but i won't try to explain the previous entry much. it amounts to an occasional indulgence in the world of vagueness. basically, local hero, local pride, being home, ______ . that 's about it.

i'm kind of bored now, and although i'm not too hungry, i sure have a crap load of turkey that's going to go bad sooner or later so i'm going to eat something and download "house of 1,000 corpses" cos i hear i missed out.
